Boots Haul: NYX Cosmetics

I can't tell if I'm late to the party or if it's just because I haven't had a good scout on the boots site in a while but

When I was younger and had just started watching Amercian beauty gurus, NYX seemed like the ultimate wishlist brand, everyone and there mum had the Jumbo eye pencil in 'milk' but it was so hard to get a hold off in the UK and even if you could the delivery and inflation was way out of my price range.

Alas it is now easily available on boots (and in Selfridges I think) and with free click and colect within a few days I couldn't resist picking up some pieces.

There is so much choice in every product that it's a bit overwhelming but in the end I whittled my choices down to these four.

Of course I went straight for the lip products and picked up two matte lipsticks, one in 'Whipped Caviar' and the second in 'Sierra'. I have to admit to only using Whipped Caviar so far but I love it, the formula is really creamy and it seems to have great staying power. I'm planning on doing a more in-depth review when I've had longer to try them both but so far so good.

Next up is the HD concealer wand, another product I have yet to try fully but it looks like a great colour match for me. They have so many options from regular concealer to colour correcting ones. Can't wait to try it out, maybe it will replace my long time 'collection' concealer.

This highlighter is actually called an 'Illuminating Bronzer' which confused the hell out of me at first because I didn't know what I was going to get. I went for the highlight in 'Narcissistic' and absolutely love it. It appears quite peachy in the pan but once on it's a lovely golden shimmer that isn't too intense. I've been using it every day since I got it and don't plan too stop. I definitely think it's one of the better highlighters available in the drugstore, bold statement I know ! My only complaint would be that there seems to be little hard patches forming on the surface of the powder.

What are your NYX recommendations?

Topshop and Missguided Sale Haul

Yes it's February but does that mean it's a bit late for a little sale haul? *yes probably*

I have to admit I find Missguided a bit hit and miss in terms of there sizing and just the overall look of there clothes. Plus I'm always put off by there delivery and return costs, I don't want to pay £4.00 to have a single item delivered to find out it's too big/small and have to pay another £3.00 to send it back ! But here I am ordering from them again.

There sale has some great bargains and when I ordered these there was another 21% off! Plus they all fit more or less (ones slightly too big but i'm not paying £3.00 to return it when it cost me less than £4.00 in the first place!!)

I'm planning on joining the gym in the next few weeks so picked up a yoga top and this marble sports bra which has an amazing marble pattern on it. I'm hoping that by buying cute workout gear it will motivate me to go/sign up.

My favourite item is this knitted zip up dress, it looks great with some tights. ankle boots and a long sleeve top underneath. Great to just throw on!

All of this (plus a burgandy frill top which just would not photograph) came to about £38 which I thought was a pretty good deal considering the amount I ordered.

Flared jersey trousers / Ghillie boots (Sold out)

I've been looking for a pair of flared jersey bottoms for months, I think they look so chic and make great casual/lounging around wear, the sale was the last place I thought I'd find them! I think I'm slightly too short and chunky to pull them off in the outside world but in the comfort of my home I should be just fine!

Personally I'm a big 'Ugly shoes' person and the chunkier the shoe the better! I've fallen in love with these. I think they'll be a great barrier between dressy and casual footwear, like I could wear them out to a bar/club but then also wear them to go out for a casual meal. The heel is quite chunky so they should be easy to walk in and your feet are pretty well supported with the lace up structure. I can't wait to wear them.

Are you still shopping the new year sales?

Christmas Gift Guide : The Best Friend (Under £20)

December has sneaked up so quickly that it's suddenly dawned on me that Christmas is almost a week away and I still have some people to buy gifts for, one of which is my Best Friend.

Just in case you are relatively unprepared like me here are some bits and bobs, that range from £4 - £20, which I think will make a good little present for that person in your life that you call your BFF!

If your BF loves all things beauty and pamper related Soap and Glory have once again outdone themselves this year with there gift selection. My personal favourite is this 'Gloss It Girl' cracker which contains 5 mini Sexy Mother Pucker lip glosses (£14.00). I also love this Nails Inc Alexa Chung set which for £20 includes 6 full size polishes , what more could a girl want?

I also love some of the more quirky gifts like the little white bunny who has cotton wool for a tail, I mean can it get much cuter, and I really don't think you can go wrong with something like a moving glitter phone case from Skinnydip London, this one even has mermaids all over it !

Colouring books are a big thing for this Christmas and there's one suited for everyone, including Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire and Sherlock. Of course my favourite is Harry Potter but I think they would make a lovely gift paired with some colouring supplies.

How is your Christmas  Shopping?

On the 12th day of Christmas....

Everyone seems to have a different style when it comes to dressing for Christmas, some like to keep it comfy and casual in there PJ's, and some like to go for the glitz and glamour look. Personally I'm in the middle, Personally I'm sort of in the middle, the past few years I've worn some sort of festive jumper and a pair of patterned trousers or a little skirt and I will probably be doing the same this year, I've had my Christmas jumper ready since boxing day (thank you topshop sale).

If you're looking for something to wear this Christmas day here are some of my favourite picks including some Christmas jumers, a very sparkly bag (which I may have sneakily purchased the other day) and a fur coat that would make anyone feel like a rockstar.

Have you got your Christmas jumper ready ?

From September to December

Hello you lovely human beings

Well it's been quite a while since I last posted on this little corner of the internet but I promise I have a valid reason.

Basically when I was writing my last post the trusty old laptop that got me through most of secondary school, GCSE's, A-Levels and half a degree gave up on me. I got it back up and running for a day but then just before I came back to uni it gave up again and this time for good (in the end it was the motherboard).

Then in November I got a new laptop (An early Christmas/ Birthday present from my lovely parents) but by this point Uni was in full swing so things had to be left as they were.

But now my last deadline of 2015 has passed, all my work has been handed in (despite my windows 10 nightmare and all my files being deleted) and even though I have three assignments due in after christmas I'm sure I can make some time to blog again because I always find it quite relaxing and almost therapeutic.

Thank you for sticking around

Happy Winter

My Make up collection: Palates

First bit of my Make up collection that I'm going to explore is probably my personal favorite, the Palates !

What Make up Collection would be complete without a Naked Palate thrown in there? I have the Naked 2 and 3 and find them perfect, the shades are wearable, pigmented and I don't regret them at all. I tend to wear more of the shades on the left sides of both palates but tend to drift to the right when I'm going out in the evening or want a more smokey eye. I can't see me adding the first Naked palate or the newest one to my collection as I think they are a bit too blue toned for me but time will tell...

Next up is the Vice 3 Palate, a bit more daring than the Naked Palates but there's a good mix of neutral shades and finishes, including matte, glitter and satin. Although my most used shades are probably Last Sin and Undone, I think my favorites are Bondage and Soinic, both burgandy/red shadows.

I have to admit to not really trying out all the blushes in the Make Up Revolution blush palate in Hot Spice but out of the ones I have tried they have been pretty pigmented and give a nice finish. I love the highlighter on the top row, it's one I always reach for and gives a really nice light pink shimmer.

The Benefit Smokin eyes... kit is great for travel, it has everything you need, 3 eye shadows for the perfect smokey eye, a tiny pair of tweezers for any stray eyebrow hairs, the brow zings wax, eye bright and a little eyeliner complete with a giant mirror. There is a shadow and brow brush included which isn't the best but it saves room in your make up bag.

What Palates are in your collection?

10 tips for surviving freshers week

  1. Learn the rules of Ring of Fire and bring a pack of cards because guaranteed you will play this game at every pre-drinks during freshers (and the rest of your uni life).
  2. Before you go out put a glass of water on your bedside table for when you wake up in the morning, you'll thank yourself in the morning!
  3. Stock up on cold medicine and paracetamol before freshers starts, freshers flu is real people and everyone in your flat will thank you for it when they realize they haven't got any.
  4. Eat a vegetable every once in a while. it's a struggle, I went two weeks before realisng I couldn't remember eating something that was green.
  5. Before you go out together for the first time, pass your phone around so everyone can put there number in it. At some point your guaranteed to lose the group on a night out, at least if you do you'll have a few numbers to call.
  6. Don't be scared, moving into a new environment can be daunting, you probably have no clue who you are living with and what they're like, your probably thinking 'what if they don't like me?' but everyone is in the same boat and almost definitely asking the same questions. Just relax and be yourself.
  7. Events sell out fast, find out what nights everyone's planning on going to and get tickets ASAP, from my experience your never too far from a ticket rep or at least someone who knows them. It can save half hour shivvering outside in a mini skirt and money (some charge more on the door).
  8. Have a night, mid week where you all stay in and watch a film. Order a take out or save some money and take a group trip to the local tesco, find a film and invite people in the surrounding flats to join you. It's good to take a break and it gives you a chance to talk to people sober.
  9. Try not to be that guy/girl who does something in freshers that will haunt them for the rest of there uni lives... until somebody does something even worse.
  10. Stay away from the Tesco Value Voldka, your stomach will thank you later.
